Langtang Valley offers a pleasant experience for trekkers looking to rough it up on a few days’ trek within easy reach from Kathmandu. Passing through the Langtang National Park, small villages en route, farmlands and verdant forests, the trek’s ultimate destination takes you to Kyanjin Gompa which is said to be as old as 700 years!

This trek is congenial for trekkers from all walks of life as the trail ascends gradually through rocky farmlands and dense subtropical forests. The trail itself is not less than interesting as you get to witness charming waterfalls, indigenous lifestyles of the Tamang community and not to mention the majestic vista of the towering Yala peak, Langtang Ri, Langtang Lirung, and Motomori peak.

Climbing Tserko Ri from Kyanjin Gompa be another memorable experience as you swoon over the dazzling sunrise over the Langtang ranges.

Detailed Itinerary

  1. Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu

    Kathmandu

    Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu, representative will receive you and transfer to the hotel as booked.

  2. Day 2 Kathmandu

    Kathmandu

    On this day, embark on a day visit in Kathmandu.

    KATHMANDU DURBAR SQUARE

    The durbar square with its arrays of temples, courtyards, monuments and the ancient palaces of the former Nepali Royals is located in Basantapur in the heart of Kathmandu city, the country’s capital. Chief attractions here include Hanuman Dhoka Royal Palace, the magnificent Taleju Temple towering more than 40 meters; Kumari Ghar, the residence of the Living Goddess, Kumari; the temple of Ashok Vinayak dedicated to lord Ganesh (elephant headed deity), and Kal Bhairav, the God of Wrath. There is a giant pagoda of ‘Kasthamandap’ (it got completely destroyed during April 2015 earthquake), a structure which is said to have been built out of a single tree. The name of the capital ‘Kathmandu’ is said to be actually derived from ‘Kasthamandap’.

    THAMEL

    After sightseeing tour of Durbar Square get on a rickshaw (tricycle) for an interesting 20-minute ride to the tourist hub of Thamel. Travelers and the locals consider it a tourist haven. Its filled with narrow streets, all lined with budget hotels, small shops selling everything from food and provisions to clothes, carpets, walking gears, music CDs, DVDs, handicrafts, paintings which make it an ideal place for souvenir shopping. The area also has some very good restaurants when you need to stop for munching.

    BOUDHANATH

    One of the oldest and the biggest Buddhist monuments ever built in Nepal; Boudhanath is a spherical stupa structure imposing at a height of 36 meters with three massive Mandala style platforms. Located 08 kilometres east of Kathmandu, the stupa with four pairs of eyes at the four cardinal directions is believed to be keeping watch for righteous behavior and human prosperity. Built on an octagonal base inset with 108 prayer wheels, the shrine is ringed by the settlement especially of the Tibetan refugees who entered Nepal in the 1950s. They have developed the place into a ‘Mini-Tibet’ ever since.

  3. Day 3 Drive To Syabrubesi (7-8 hours)

    We leave Kathmandu in the morning for Syabrubesi, a village which is also the starting point for treks into the Langtang valley. Our journey will be on a winding road through frequent switchbacks. On a clear day we get to enjoy outstanding views of Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal.

  4. Day 4 Trek To Lama Hotel (6-7 hours)

    Syabrubesi

    After breakfast, we begin our trek to Syabrubesi along the Langtang Khola. We ascend and descend simultaneously through oak and rhododendron forests. After crossing a bridge over the Langtang Khola (small river), we ascend on a steep trail which will lead us to the Lama Hotel.

  5. Day 5 Trek To Mundu Via Langtang Village (6-7 hours)

    We continue ascending from Lama Hotel and enjoy the mountain landscape with abundant waterfalls. As we reach the green meadows of Ghoda Tabela, we begin to see the white peaks of the Langtang range. Our trail continues to climb up the widening valley, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders. We pass a Buddhist monastery before reaching the Langtang village which was affected by the April 2015 earthquake. We continue on our trail to Mundu.

  6. Day 6 Trek To Kyanjim Gompa (4-5 hours)

    Kyanjin Gompa

    After breakfast, we will start our journey to Kyangjin Gompa, a principal monastery of the region. We pass by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. We also pass by the largest mani wall in Nepal, made from stone with prayers written on them. After the short trek, we spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the Buddhist shrine in Kyangjin Gompa and surrounding areas with the amazing views of the mountains.

  7. Day 7 Acclimatization – Explore Tseko RI (7-8 hours)

    We spend the whole day exploring Tserko Ri which will also help us acclimatize to the high altitude. We begin early in the morning. The trail passes through yak pastures before ascending to Tserko Ri. The sunrise view from the top of Tserko Ri is extraordinary. We get back to Kyangjin Gompa by late afternoon and explore the beautiful monastery while enjoying views of the Himalayas, glaciers, birds and yaks.

  8. Day 8 Trek To Lama Hotel (6-7 hours)

    Syabrubesi

    We begin our trek after breakfast and retrace our steps to Lama Hotel. Most of the trekking today will be downhill as we pass through forests and beautiful Tamang villages. We also get to enjoy different view of the Himalayas that we had missed climbing up.

  9. Day 9 Trek To Syabrubesi (5-6 hours)

    Syabrubesi

    We basically retrace our steps back to Syabrubesi. The trek will be easier as it will mostly involve descending.

    We basically retrace our steps back to Syabrubesi. The trek will be easier as it will mostly involve descending.
