Cape Comorin or The Land's End

Kanyakumari, also known as ‘Cape Comorin,’ is the southern tip of the Indian Peninsula where the Arabian Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal meet together. It is the smallest district in Tamil Nadu and the only place in the entire world where one can witness both the rising and setting of the sun at the same time along with moon rise.

It has a coastal line of 71.5 kms stretched on the three sides. This small district is famous on its sandy beaches, vast green stretches of paddy fields, coconut groves, Rubber garden, luxurious forests, the rare earth element deposits of the western sea shore, multicolored sand and stretched valley mountains of the Western Ghats.

According to Hindu legends, Lord Hanuman dropped a piece of earth as he was carrying a mountain with the life-saving herb, ‘Mrita Sanjivani’, from the Himalayas to Lanka (Sri Lanka), to heal Lord Lakshman (Lord Ram’s brother) in the war against demon king Ravana. This chunk of earth is the hillside called Marunthuvazh Malai, literally meaning "hills where medicine lives". This is said to be the reason for the abundance of unique native medicinal plants in the area.
