Rajasthan’s - City of Lakes
Udaipur, also known as the City of Lakes, is the crown jewel of the state of Rajasthan. It is surrounded by the beautiful Aravalli Hills in all directions, making this city as lovely as it is. This 'Venice of the East' has an abundance of natural beauty, mesmerising temples and breathtaking architecture which makes it a must-visit destination in India.
Udaipur, formerly the capital of the Mewar Kingdom, is a city in the western Indian state of Rajasthan. Founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559, it’s set around a series of artificial lakes and is known for its lavish royal residences. City Palace, overlooking Lake Pichola, is a monumental complex of 11 palaces, courtyards and gardens, famed for its intricate peacock mosaics.
Fantastical palaces, temples, havelis (traditional, ornately decorated residences) and countless narrow, crooked, timeless streets add the human counterpoint to the city’s natural charms. For the visitor there's the serenity of boat rides on the lakes, the bustle and colour of bazaars, a lively arts scene, the quaint old-world feel of its heritage hotels, tempting shops and some lovely countryside to explore on wheels, feet or horseback.
October to March offer the best period to visit Udaipur as the winter season is pleasant and breezy making it an ideal time to explore the city at its best. With mesmerising forts and grand palaces, Udaipur's enchanting beauty is a treat for your eyes in Winter. The Mewar festival of Udaipur is held in March every year. Monsoons from July to September is another ideal time to visit Udaipur as it is pleasant and a relief from the torrid climate of Rajasthan. The windy weather is also perfect to enjoy many activities such as camel riding and boating to make your trip even more fun.
